Balancing Work and Family Life

Let’s talk about balancing work and home life!

Hello Peeps!

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always been interested in working for myself. Sure, I’d love to say I had the desire to be creative or express myself through some god given talent, but to be quite honest my motivation has always been money. I’ve always had a soft spot in my wallet for money. I felt a sense of empowerment when I had the ability to control how much money I could make (and I still do). It’s what prompted me to buy big bags of blow pops in the 5th grade and sell them at recess for a quarter. It’s also what led me to fudge my working papers when I was 13 so I could get my first job at Dairy Queen.

While working for that Dairy Queen, I would work as many hours as my mom would allow during the week (aka not many) and long shifts on the weekends. Picking up my paycheck every Wednesday gave me a feeling I can not describe. A feeling I still get to this day every time I am chosen for an instagram campaign or one of my social media clients contacts me about a project they want me to work on for them.

My Journey to Mom Bossing

I’ve been blogging for a minute. Starting out with my Facebook page Invading mars and expanding that to an actual website . It wasn’t until about 2 years ago that I really started honing in on blogging. After gaining a moderate amount of success on Facebook, I needed to move to my own space on the interwebs. Then last year after starting my search for a house, I got the idea for this blog. By the time I started this blog, I was pretty focused until bam I got pregnant. And let me tell you pregnant brain is so real. During that time, I was super happy about having a baby, but completely worried about how my life would change. Let’s not even talk about how I worried about how my finances would change and how I would afford a baby. My worries were justified considering my side hustle of blogging wasn’t really panning  out because I couldn’t focus on writing,  working a day job, and growing a human.

It was tough, but now I have a newfound respect for moms! Especially mom bosses! I am only 6 weeks in to mom bossing, so by no means do I have a handle on it. I rely on other inspiring moms to guide me through this exciting (and frightening!) process.

Returning to my day job, blogging, raising a mini human, and trying not to shirk my wifely duties is….A LOT! But I see so many extraordinary women do it every day, and I know I can too! I am so inspired by the moms I see killing it daily online and in business.

Check out 3 inspiring Moms who have a real handle on work life balance!

Chrissy Weems– Chrissy took teaching her teenage daughter a lesson about hardwork and entrepreneurship to the next level. Going from stay at home mom to jewelry slinging mom boss inspires me so much. Learn more about Chrissy Weems.

Cara Dumaplin– Cara is a baby whisperer and super mom boss. She is the creator of one of my new favorite brands, Taking Cara Babies. Yes, I am a tad bit biased as the mother of a newborn.  Cara has used her extensive knowledge of babies and transformed it into a very profitable business. As a mom of four, she is simply killing the business and mommy game at the same time. Check out Cara’s site here.

Congratulations on becoming a mum, AND a mum boss! It’s true that being a mum (of twins here!), a wife, and working, whether it be full time, part time, or from home, just means an enormous amount of juggling but we all rock! Good luck with it all! S x

I’m not a Mom. But I certainly tip my hat to those who can parent and work AND blog at the same time. I can’t imagine doing all three of those at once. Bravo to you and all the other Moms who get it all done.
