2019 Goals : 1st Quarter Check-In

April marks the start of the second quarter, and I have been trying to get in the habit of checking in and acknowledging all I have accomplished in the previous 3 months. 2019 started off particularly unique for me, since I became a mom for the first time. That in itself, was quite a feat for the quarter but being the overachiever I pride myself on being, I had to do more!

I adjusted to mom life a little easier because I am lucky enough to work for a company that offers paid maternity leave. On top of that, I have an amazing husband and a hands on village ready to help me with everything I needed during the early stages. (We still have at least 2 visitors per week coming to see Ju)

About a month into maternity leave I hit my second big accomplishment of the quarter…

I got a promotion while on maternity leave! It was an unexpected surprise that was years in the making. I absolutely love my job, but doing the same thing for 12 years gets pretty old and this new challenge is just what I needed in my professional life! I’m excited to work with new people and learn a ton of new things. As an avid worrier, I couldn’t help but think how baby would impact me and hubby’s perfectly balanced finances.

Check out my previous post about the goals I set for 2019!

We were in desperate need of a new family car, and although we could afford one on our current salary, it would dip heavily into our monthly savings contributions. Well with the new job we could afford to get the car we wanted, and allot for our child care needs without taking a hit to what we are comfortably save monthly.

This segues into accomplishment # 3

I bought my first brand new car! Hubby has had a new car before, but not in a while. For me, this was my first time owning a new car. We approached this transaction just like we did our house and it paid off for us. After researching the cars we liked and their price points we settled for many reasons on the 2019 Kia Sorento; safety and reliability being the main two factors.

The Sorento was the number ones mid sized SUV for 2017 and 2018, beating out the Toyota Highlander and Hyundai Santa Fe. In 2019, the Highlander took the prize with the Santa Fe coming in a close second and then the Sorento, but out of all the mid sizers on the market-I was ok with it. We stayed in our desired price range with the payment and insurance and got a vehicle our family can grow into.

Financial, first quarter, goalsAnd last but not least…

I got back to blogging and made some money doing it. Last year being pregnant really effected my ability to churn out blogs and most importantly my ability to earn from those blogs. I wasn’t too hard on myself because after all I was creating life and dealing with all the challenges and beauty that comes along with that. I’m just happy the love for writing and content creation returned shortly after delivery. Having off for 12 weeks really helped me get back into the habit of writing and helped me jump start my year!

My winter has been going wonderfully with a new bundle of joy, a new job, a new car and a renewed writers spirit. I’m really looking forward to building on my year. Returning to work will certainly be a challenge for me. I’m going to miss my love bug, not to mention needing to function at a high level with the lack of sleep having an infant brings. But I’m ready to tackle the challenge and get back to my old self!

Goals for 2nd Quarter

•Become efficient in my new role.

•Get a good work routine going.

•Get Ju sleeping through the night.

•Prepare for our first family road trip with baby.

•Plan for baby’s first plane ride to meet His grandfather in Quarter 4.

Stay tuned for my next update in a few months!

Wish me luck!
